Once you find a swamp, you'll start to have occasional invasions from swamp mobs. A message will appear on the screen: "A foul smell from the swamp" and a red circle and exclamation point will appear on your map. Keep yourself well-fed and have defenses built on your base or outpost. A stake wall is a good start.
