If you hold the Aim Mode button (Left Trigger on Xbox) near objects, the interface will show a barcode-like icon that indicates if an item or object can be scanned. Red items have already been scanned, Green are new. Use this to find items in the world that you can interact with, especially collectibles that might be hard to see. This can save time from having to guess what might be scannable.
