The most obvious path to choosing which weapon to upgrade is to look at your chosen character. The base weapon they start with usually has stat perks associated with that character to make their starting weapon more powerful in the long run. Even sticking with a weapon “type” (close/long range) will provide benefits for that character. Use a build centered around their strengths.
