The fast forward function allows you to skip much of the external dialogue boxes and in-game text to get to the next turn. Although this is a bad idea in later, more difficult missions, it is incredibly useful in the early game as a way to speed up tutorial levels and get into more challenging content. This can even shave hours off of the most boring part of the game!
