Once you unlock specific monsters you can view their weaknesses by going into Hunter's Notes from the Menu and Info tab. There, you can view Large Monsters weakpoints along with some descriptions about how they might attack you. Use this knowledge before quests so that you can go in prepared knowing where to strike and what elements they're weak to so battles end faster.
