It's a good habit to always save for a battle if: A. You're unsure if you have enough strength to beat a certain group of enemies (see the color type above their heads, red is usually pretty safe). B. You're low on health and MP. If Kasuaga dies, the battle will instantly end and you'll lose money. The game will autosave after the battle is lost. Better to be safe than sorry.
