Whiffing an attack means you cannot cancel into special attacks in most fighting games. However, in King of Fighters XV, you can cancel some specials from whiffed attacks. This means you can mix up your opponents from far away with empty cancels by throwing out an attack that will miss only to cancel into a ranged attack they won's see coming.
