Several Rites in the game give you and your ship a temporary enhancement, and you should use them to make your life as a pilot as easy as possible. Some Rites are mostly used for puzzle solving or escaping a space temple, but many Rites provide offensive or defensive utility in battle. The Rite of the Hunt lets you teleport behind enemies, just to name an excellent example.
