Crafting is a huge aspect in Fallout 4. Random junk found in the wastelands can be valuable as they contain components used to craft items, modify weapons and upgrade armour. Use the Tag for Search function for a particular item you want. Your PipBoy will highlight the components when you're looting, which makes it easier to grab the things you need for your upgrades.
