Sentience is a weapon enhancement mechanic in Nioh 2. The Sentience gauge fills up as you deal damage to enemies, view the amount from the Equipment menu or the small white bar by your current weapon. Once it's filled up, a Yokai's soul in your weapon awakens and you deal extra Ki damage during this time. Your weapon glows purple and the Sentience bar slowly drains.
