There is Gold, and that's pretty obvious what you need that for. However, you may not be completely sure how to use some of the other currencies in the game. There's a good chance that if you visit the Coin Collector, he'll have something for you to trade with him for the weird coins and currencies that you've collected on your journey. Make sure to check with him regularly to get items and goods.
