Have an escape plan, or be ready to retreat at any moment. Unlike most FPS games where there isn't much time or options for safely removing yourself from an encounter, you don't have to fight every time you get shot at in Splitgate. Splitgate's portals system adds an extra layer of strategy that includes escaping in some scenarios. They can't see in your portals, and you can close them if needed.
