It's tempting to open all containers you find, but sometimes it's best to leave them closed. If you're near the next Weapon Proficiency level, don't open them. After you gain Weapon Proficiency, backtrack then open containers for stronger weapons that scale to your new level. On the map you can easily find these containers marked with a hollow circle or a filled one (needs a key or malignant).
