There is only so much you can do in the name of “preparation.” Because of that, you must save whenever you can and as often as possible. Unless you have some weird pride thing where you don’t want to save a lot, make sure you save before every encounter. Chrono Cross has some battles that may seem unassuming at first but is very challenging. Dying and being sent back is never fun.
