As soon as you activate a Battle Command, swap characters. Non-active characters charge the ATB gauge slowly so you should attack or guard until it's ready for another Ability or Spell. It's tempting to stick with one character but this is a more efficient way to battle. You can maximize the amount of damage dealt to enemies, stagger them, and level up Abilities by actively using them.
