Chernobylite gives you crew members that will help you progress the game. Doing missions will not work if your crew members are unhappy in their base. You need to put some effort into decorating your base and making it livable. A base with no upgrades will not attract companions and could also make your existing crew members leave your side. This damages your morale boost and make game harder.
