If a quest requires that you collect a certain type of resource be it food item, mineral ore, etc., make sure to set that quest to active from the Task Menu. This will highlight those nearby materials with a white diamond icon and show you the distance (in numbers) from where you are. This can save some time from having to wander all over the map to gather items needed to complete a quest.
