Portals are not secure, as players can not only shoot through them, but they can also use them to follow exactly where you went. The easiest solution for this is to close your portals when you finish using them. They can't see through enemy portals, so they won't know where you went. They can still shoot through them, though, so close them if you aren't going to use them right away.
