The best dps(damage persecond) weapons are definitely the dual swords, however to get all of that damage you will need a long time to actually hit the full dual sword combo. So it's actually better to use either the greatswords/axes or the great hammers. It's up to you if you like the lunging forward effect of the hammers, but I prefer the standing still combo of the greatswords/axes.
