Generally you want to focus on as few stats to upgrade as possible. This will make you a much stronger person when using a weapon that correlates with that statistic. For example if you focus on strength your character will be an excellent hammer user. Every weapon has a stat affinity, so try out the different weapon types and level up the affinity stat of your favorite weapon.
