If you have your game options set to Auto-Sprint, it requires you to hold the analog stick and run for a while until it is activated. The other way is to simply Evade/Dodge. After you roll, you'll automatically be engaged in Sprint mode. This is much faster, especially if you want to get into attacks that require Sprint such as lunging forward with Heavy Attack.
