Think of a ship like a server. Depending on which one you decide to create your character(s) on, the players on that server are the ones you will be stuck playing with. This means that if you are planning on playing with a friend or family member, you must be on the same ship. Plan this in advance if you are looking to party with people you know otherwise you won't be able to play together.
