When you start the game, there isn't any advantage to disassembling gear unless you like to horde resources. Early on, sell weapons and armor to purchase better gear. Once you can craft, you'll have better gear worth dismantling that unlocks mods and rare resources. This is when disassembling is needed. Upgrading weapons and armor through crafting is key to obtaining unique and higher tier gear.
