If you find yourself lost in a story quest or side mission, check the Battle Log: Press the + button and in the menu press L to go to the Battle Log. You can select dialogue on the left and the map on the right will highlight quest objectives and points of interest. Sometimes the dialogue itself will contain hints to help you along the way so look for clues there as well.
