In order to keep up with the enemies you'll face, it's important to have gear that is up to date. This means visiting the Blacksmith, especially if there is a campfire nearby. Select the Craft Weapon option. There are usually new crafting options as you progress. If you have the required materials and Gald, craft the strongest weapon available to ensure you can deal the most damage in your area.
