If you accidentally die, you also lose all of the equipment that you had equipped. You will also respawn back in town. However, that equipment is not entirely lost. It helps to have a Weapon and Armor set stored in your Private Stash for this reason. You can equip your spare gear and make your way safely back to where you died to retrieve your lost equipment.
