When pressing the Fast Travel button (Left-Stick on Xbox) there are icons that appear on different sections of the map and they might also blink. These indicate certain items that you can pick up, doors you can unlock, objects you can bomb, etc. If you're unsure if you've picked up items, simply fast travel back to those sections. The icons will clear once you've picked up the items.
