Shards that are consumed when you Raise Attributes will be returned to your inventory once you dismantle the gear they were added to. You will get 100% of the shards back that you put in. Don't sell gear that has shards you used for upgrading. You'll lose your investment. Instead, dismantle that gear to get shards back. This is a good way to keep new gear powered up.
