If you die in an area (such as a boss battle) where it's extremely dangerous to go back and retrieve your corpse, you can instead have your corpse spawn in town! Go into the Menu and under the Options tab just Save and Exit. When you restart the game, your character's corpse will spawn inside of town and all your items will be intact. Only the most recent corpse is recovered so be careful.
