There are 2 ways to change which character you manually control in battle: 1. In battle, hold the Target button and press the button (D-pad) that corresponds to the character you want to control. 2. In the menu there is a Switch Battle Character button. Press the assigned button to change who you control in battle. A red flag next to the character's name will show who you are now controlling.
